REMINDERS FROM THE ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL

As we begin Semester 2, please take a moment to review our attendance policies below.

Excused vs. Unexcused absence: Excused absences are when students are out of school and return with a note from their healthcare provider (see link for other reasons) or they are dismissed by the school nurse. An unexcused absence is when students are out of school but no doctor's note was provided. Students are permitted six unexcused class absences per term.

Tardies to School:  Any student not in their first-period classroom by 7:40 a.m. will be considered tardy. Office detention will result following the third unexcused tardiness per term.  Please see link for more information from the MHS Handbook.

2023 ARMED SERVICES VOCATIONAL APTITUDE BATTERY (ASVAB)

On Wednesday, February 8th, Medfield will be offering the ASVAB (Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery).  Students should report to guidance at 7:45AM on test day.  Students can register here:

ASVAB REGISTRATION

The test, optional and open to all CURRENT JUNIORS & SENIORS, is approximately 3 hours in length. Students are reminded that they are responsible to approach teachers in order to make up all missing assignments. Students will check-in to the MHS Guidance office the morning of the exam.

The ASVAB is an interest inventory that allows students to explore potential career options. The ASVAB is designed to help students learn more about themselves and the world of work, to identify and explore potentially satisfying occupations, and develop an effective strategy to realize potential career goals.

There is no fee to take the test. If you have any questions about registration please contact the guidance office.

NEWS FROM THE MHS GIRLS WHO START CLUB

Another great Girls Who Start meeting! Girls Who Start is an international organization dedicated to inspiring young women to become entrepreneurs and leaders. Following the national organization’s mission, Co-Presidents Maeve O’Hara and Julia Kirk (both MHS 2023) founded a chapter at Medfield High School in 2021. The MHS GWS chapter has grown to over 30 young women, with Ms. Wren-Burgess as volunteer advisor since its inception. Over the years an interesting variety of local women entrepreneurs have addressed the club.

At the 1/25/23 meeting, Medfield resident, mother of a Blake Middle schooler, and owner of Design on a Dime Women’s Boutique, Stacey Leighton, shared her inspiring story of how the covid crisis in 2020 was a catalyst for starting her business. From founding her boutique online, to sharing brick and mortar commercial space in several local towns, to her current solo operation on Main Street in Walpole, her story of how she founded, developed, altered, and grew Design on a Dime was interesting and encouraging to the 20+ students in attendance. In addition, she created activities for the members to brainstorm ideas for their own businesses via a graphic organizer and Conversation Hearts! The big takeaway? MHS students learned from Stacey that if you have a dream, you can achieve it if you put in the work!

The MHS Girls Who Start club is always happy to welcome new members. Anyone interested in checking out the club and/or getting involved in inspiring opportunities like these, please email co-presidents Maeve or Julia on their school emails:

Plus, snacks are always served at Girls Who Start meetings!

FROM THE MHS PTO

TO ALL SENIOR PARENTS:

The All Night Grad Party Team (ANGP) are planning the celebration of the year for The Class of 2023.

The only way we can make this happen is thanks to generous donations from Senior Parents, the Community and Volunteer time. This is not a ticketed event to allow ALL students to attend. That said, the average cost per Senior for this 8 hour party, full of non-stop entertainment, food and fun-filled activities throughout the night is $200.

Please make a donation TODAY for your Senior to experience the party of all parties and RECEIVE A CLASS OF 2023 CAR MAGNET!

Thank you!

FROM THE MCPE

Trivia Night is just around the corner!

This favorite Medfield event is a fun way to enjoy a night with friends while supporting our Medfield schools, teachers, and students. All proceeds benefit MCPE, which provides system-wide support and academic enrichment for Medfield Public Schools through grants for the development of innovative programs, curriculum, and enrichment. Check out some MCPE Grants in Action on FB! https://www.facebook.com/MCPEMedfield

Trivia Night is next Wednesday, February 8 at 7:00 PM at AvaLena’s Bar in Millis. Teams of 4-6 adults will join other competitors and a professional trivia host for a fast-paced, humor-filled evening. The cost is $40/person (dinner included, cash bar). Team captains register teams here.

We’re painting the town blue!

MCPE is celebrating its 35th Anniversary! During this anniversary year, we are asking every household in Medfield to consider making a donation to MCPE. Each residence that makes a charitable contribution of any amount will receive a blue bow placed on their mailbox. You can showcase your support for Medfield Public Schools by donating to MCPE's 35th Anniversary Appeal and proudly displaying a blue ribbon, helping us paint the town blue!

This year, we are partnering with our schools to fund five ambitious projects that will make a real difference in our students' educational experience. Without MCPE, many of the educational enrichment tools and professional development opportunities that differentiate Medfield Public Schools and make our students' academic experiences truly unique would simply not be possible, as they are outside the school budget. Over many years, MCPE has brought innovative and rewarding initiatives to students in all five public schools. From Numicon kits and Passport Club in our elementary schools to a disc golf course and pickleball at the middle and high schools, every single child that comes through the Medfield public school system benefits from grants funded by MCPE.

Please join us by making your MCPE 35th Anniversary Appeal gift today! Let’s paint the town blue!
