FOOD SERVICES NEWS
Coming on March 28th, we will be serving grass-fed burgers from Walden Local, who partners with sustainable, human farmers in the New England and New York area. The Medfield Food Service Department will be purchasing the burgers using funding from the Northeast Food for Schools Grant. This grant can be used to purchase local, minimally processed food items.

Throughout the school year, we have been able to purchase a variety of local produce from Massachusetts farmers including lettuce from Little Leaf Farms, apples from Carlson Orchards, cage-free eggs from Hubbardston, MA and much more! We hope all students will take advantage of this great opportunity!

GET READY FOR THE APRIL 8, 2024 TOTAL SOLAR ECLIPSE!

On April 8, 2024, a total solar eclipse will cross North America, passing over Mexico, the United States, and Canada. A total solar eclipse happens when the Moon passes between the Sun and Earth, completely blocking the face of the Sun. The sky will darken as if it were dawn or dusk.

WRITING CENTER SPOTLIGHT: INAUGURAL WRITING CENTER SENIOR TUTORS

The Medfield High School Writing Center piloted a unique program this year to help more students in the Writing Center with an inaugural group of permanent senior Peer Tutors. Writing Center Director and English Teacher Bonnie Wren-Burgess (WB) explained, “Our charter tutors surpassed all hopes for this program, far exceeding expectations as we endeavored to help more students than I can handle solo. Oona Greeley, Trenton Louis, and Olivia Stanton are tremendously special individuals, all of whom had to work incredibly hard to gain the ability and skills to effectively tutor freshmen, sophomore, junior, and senior writers as they tutored them on a wide variety of writing assignments! I cannot stress strongly enough how much our senior tutor triumvirate profoundly and positively impacted so many students.”

Oona, Trenton, and Olivia spent the majority of rotating Flex periods each week tutoring in the Writing Center, for over 100 hours of volunteering. Together they will have helped hundreds of students improve their writing in a variety of classes with these tutors own hard-won writing mastery, effective verbal and written communication, discernment to quickly identify students’  writing strengths and improvement opportunities, together with Olivia, Trenton, and Oona’s natural generosity, positive humor, and authentic kindness.

Before they even graduate, Oona Greeley, Trenton Louis, and Olivia Stanton fulfilled the Medfield District’s Vision of the Graduate:

Medfield High School envisions a graduate who is an active and
reflective member of their community. Students will graduate with
the ability to think critically and communicate effectively using
technology skillfully and ethically.  They will pair these academic
skills with empathy and resilience in preparation for adulthood.
(mhshandbook/mission-statement-and-core-values)

WB added, “In the future, when I think of Oona Greeley, Trenton Louis, and Olivia Stanton, I will remember they each not only exemplified, but exceeded, the best kind of students and citizens we try to hone here at Medfield High School.”
