September 15, 2020
Good afternoon/evening/morning -
(I apologize for the formatting if it is 'spaced out' or the font switches - it sometimes is altered through Aspen)...
I hope everyone is doing well and looking forward to the official start of school. It was wonderful to have our Cohort A students in the building! Below please find links to our family orientation webinar and slides...
Our goal was to provide information regarding protocols and share pertinent information about how we will be 'operating at Blake' this year. Please know that we are fully aware that our plans may (and most likely will) need to adapt as we see the 'best laid plans' in reality over the beginning days/weeks of school.
The information below is 'copied' from previous e-mails, but I thought it might be helpful to have it here as well. We will be sending out direct links to the 'virtual agendas' and Zoom information for 9/16 by Tuesday evening.
Opening Days of School
Wednesday, September 16
Our first day of school for students is Wednesday, September 16 and is a 'remote learning day' for the district. The day for Blake students will be structured into three sessions...
- An all-school synchronous Zoom webinar meeting to start the day with Mr. Vaughn and Mrs. Campbell (this will be our welcoming meeting with all students)
- Cluster-wide synchronous Zoom meetings/orientation for 6th-8th grade students
- Advisory synchronous Zoom meetings/orientation for 6th-8th grade students
These three sessions will take place via Zoom and the specific links/passwords with timeframes will be sent to all students and families via e-mail on Tuesday, September 15.
Thursday, September 17
This will be the first in-school day of school for students in Cohort B and the first 'full' remote day of school for students in Cohort A.
Monday, September 21
This will be the first in-school day of school for students in Cohort A and the first 'full' remote day of school for students in Cohort B.
** Throughout the year the primary mode/learning platform for students accessing their school work will be via Google Classroom. Please keep in mind that students will need orientation/setup/assistance for Google Classroom in person with their teachers, so the remote activities/etc. (definitely for Cohort A on Thursday, 9/17 and Friday, 9/18) will most likely be something designed that students can do/access outside of Google Classroom. Although Google Classroom will be our 'go to spot' for work, we recognize that some of our students will need support accessing these links.
As I have shared in the past and will continue to share with students, staff, and families...
Please know that I am always happy and eager to process, listen, discuss, and share - my 'virtual door' is always open - and I encourage everyone to do the same with one another. Thank you for walking this path with us as a community. I look forward to the work that lies ahead for all of us.
